Welcome To Candy Kingdom

As I'm sure you've all noticed, here at Mixie we like a lil' bit of colour.

Okay maybe a lot!

And why not?! It's fun, expressive and even a tiny splash of colour to an outfit can change it!

And when your hair is looking like you stepped through a candy factory and got sucked into a machine … well … no outfit is dull.

Most ladies treasure their hair, and we certainly do. But finding a hairdresser who you know will do a fabulous job is a tricky one, but luckily for Lexie and I we do not have that problem!

Our dear magical hair dresser, Bonnie, from Scissors, Paper, Rock Salon has done a wonderful job on our hair!

I kinda chopped all my hair off and now look like Princess Bubblegum - The Younger Years.

While Lexie, inspired by Kesha's latest hair do turned herself into Lady Rainicorn!

 What a team, heh!

We took some more fun snaps at the back of work yesterday! Was such a lovely Summer day!

A Merry Mixie Christmas

Christmas time is celebrated a little differently from family to family, but this year we were really drawn to the idea of a White Christmas. How lovely the thought is!

Unfortunately we don’t have lovely crisp white snow to play in, so we chose the beautiful white sandy beaches of Palm Beach, QLD. This beach in particular holds a special place in Lexie’s heart as one of her most treasured Christmas memories – aww!

As always we were also channeling our natural mermaid tendencies, and thought a beach trip was even more appropriate for the Mixie gals!

For this shoot we had the opportunity to work with the wonderful Heather of Heather Louise Photography. It was awesome to have an extra set of hands on deck (no self-timer necessary!) and we love the pics.

We are so excited about the collaborations we have planned for the New Year with some of Brisbane’s most creative and sensational citizens!

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

Mixie Meets in The Pavilion

Hiya internet friends!
Lexie and I had a little meeting today (the one we were meant to have yesterday but got distracted by Topshop!). And we held it in the grandness that is The Pavilion. Capital T and P is a must.

So we got to planning some new shoots, recipes and some diy projects!

Though the meeting didn't really start until we had scoffed some delicious treats from French Twist, a cute cafe in Indooroopilly, and sipped some smoothies which I whipped up for us!

This fruity crush is simple and quick, plus it's dairy free which suits our delicate little bunny tummies!

1 punnet of strawberries
2 passionfruit
2 scoops Weis Passionfruit and Lychee sorbet
6 scoops Weis Mango Sorbet
1/2 cup of Mango Nectar Juice (Golden Circle)
Ice
Cut up the strawberries into halves, add the passionfruit, sorbet and juice into a blender then add your ice.

Blend Blend Blend!

Yum!

During our productive day making plans we even made a quick trip to Spotlight to get some supplies to make some cute little Christmas flower crowns! We also stopped by the shops and got ourselves a cute little polaroid camera. So much fun! And it came in pink - perfect!

Notebook: Kikki K
Polaroid Camera: Fuji Film InstaX from Target

Scully decided she wanted to get in on the photos!

Naww! I do love my fluffball! When she is clean ... !

We made a start on our flower crowns this afternoon but will finishing them off tomorrow in time for our Christmas shoot on Tuesday!

So fiddly but they do look lovely in the end!

Looking good!

That's all for today lords and ladies, we shall catch you later in the week!

Roasted Pumpkin Salad

Missy here, wishing you all a wondrous afternoon!

It's officially Summer here in Queensland and so it's getting hot and humid. Super.

When you're hot and hungry all you want is something simple that doesn't require a lot of time and effort. Nobody wants to stand cooking in the kitchen when it's a million degrees!

So today I made myself a roasted pumpkin salad! So what you'll need is:

  • 1/4  pumpkin, deseeded, peeled, cut into cubes
  • 3 tbs canola oil
  • 1 tbs fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil
  • handful of lettuce or baby spinach
  • 1 x 75g pkt toasted pine nuts
  • feta cheese
  • roasted chicken breast (optional)

I cut up the amount of pumpkin I wanted, placed it in a tray greased with canola oil and put it in the oven that was preheated to 180*

Let that cook for 15mins (you can leave it on longer if you want your pumpkin more crispy!) and get your other ingredients all ready.

The feta I used is absolutely delish! It's marinated in herbs and oil, I just get it from my local Coles!
Yum yum! I also added some chicken for some protein and sprinkled on the pine nuts.

Something quick and easy that takes no time at all! Yay!
